GREEN BEAUTY BEAT

By: Mrs. Tashika Coleman

I am the proud Mother of Tadajah, Vogue á La Mode’s founder and CEO. I’m a nutritionist in training and looking to be certified soon. I’m also an event planner, blogger & photographer. I’m happy to be apart of such a wonderful up and coming magazine. This magazine is very encouraging and enlightening to inspiring young entrepreneurs. Valm you are amazing and you have a stellar team. Keep putting out good works. I look forward to seeing where you will be next year. – Blessings, Mama!

I was shocked to have my daughter solicit me for some healthy makeup tips. Because I can recall long ago coming home one day with a bunch of aloe leaves from the store, once Tadajah seen them she went running fast in the opposite direction, screaming y’all!  She and my husband are my Guinea Pigs and they are always cracking jokes about what I may have them try next. Although I still haven’t mastered kale chips but I promise you Tadajah,  I’ll have some to ship to you soon.

But I digress!

It’s the new year! (applaud here) which means half the population are launching their next detoxes, diets, or exercise plans, as a result of much indulging over the “Hearty Holidays”. It’s time to tighten it back up. However, it’s not just the contents from your fridge that could benefit you a detox. Skin care and makeup are no exception to this rule. Our skin is our largest organ and while it may form a protective barrier to a certain extent, it’s certainly not invincible nor keeps us safe from the high number of toxic chemicals we encounter daily. Many of which can be found in our everyday beauty products! – We all can benefit from taking a break from wearing it now and then.

I am a holistic wellness enthusiast. It excites me to know that God has provided us with such  natural, organic, non-toxic produce/products. So I’ve made some important (not perfect) lifestyle changes in order to stay healthy. I’ve exposed them to my daughter early on in her life. (just ask Tadajah about how she was the only child in the 1st grade that didn’t eat from the infamous golden arches and still to this day)

There is something really beautiful and almost spiritual about making the switch to all-natural beauty products. ”Green Beauty”  Once you realize that you can apply naturally pure ingredients on your skin and you find products (many listed below) that will allow you to have that Green Beauty Beat Life, you’ll have such a peace of mind knowing that you’re not poisoning your body. I love organic, natural, non-toxic and paraben free beauty because I believe that it’s important not to sacrifice your “Beat face” for health. Switching over can be done in baby steps. No pressure! No judgement!  I’ll show you a few simple tricks to “Empower your beauty from the inside out”.

Putting your best face forward starts with making your skin cells healthy from the inside out. So make sure you are eating a well balanced diet and rehydrating with plenty of water and high water content foods – such as strawberries, cantaloupes, melon, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce just to name a few. -Mmm

Heres some natural products:

IMG_9643.JPG

1.H20: My absolute favorite drink!  It’s important to hydrate your body on a regular basis – for that luminous skin effect and to protect your skin underneath the makeup when applied. Remember increasing water intake will allow the skin to have a more radiant natural glow.

2.  Aloe Vera Leaf: A powerful anti-inflammatory herb full of vitamins and essential minerals. It calms, heals, reduces pigmentations and encourages the production of keratin to rejuvenate tired skin cells. It’s well known as a treatment for burns and sunburns, aloe can also reduce psoriasis.

3. Cacao: Chocolate! Will not only delight your taste buds but also add a glow to your face, moisturises your skin, is rich in antioxidants, helps fight ageing, promotes collagen, production for tighter skin as well as prevents blemishes. Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares anyone?

Here you’ll find a great recipe for a great Chocolate mask! Yaas Chocolate can get them faces snacthed right! Who knew?

4. Coconut oil:  My daughter skin just soaks this delicious oil up.  She uses it as a makeup remover. Her face loves it, mine on the other hand can not tolerate it. It’s a little harsh for mine. But I do use Coconut oil on any scrapes or cuts I may have on my body for it’s healing properties.  It contains antioxidant Vitamin E, that has antiviral and antifungal benefits. Moisturizing your face at night with Coconut oil will  delete all the dryness.

5. Frankincense Oil : is just as effective as an antiseptic. It can help with pigmentations as well as tone and tighten the skin.

6. Apple cider vinegar:  It can also be used as a natural toner because it helps shrink the appearance of pores when applied topically. It’s claimed to help kill pathogens including bacteria and help fight acne.  Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water as a finishing rinse to cleanse and tighten your skin. Gently apply the solution to your face and let it dry.

7. Avocado: Something we love to eat. It Balances, calms moisturizes and softens sensitive, irritated or dry skin.  Nature’s power fruit packed with provitamins that nurtures skin back to health while increasing the collagen in your skin.  Mash up the avocado and apply it to clean skin, leave on as long as desired before rinsing. Enjoy your Avo Mask!

According to reader’s digest, “Who needs Botox when you have bananas? That’s right: You can use a banana as an all-natural face mask that moisturizes your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water”.

8. Pineapple: Refresh, soften, stimulate greater collagen production. This tropical fruit helps, fight free radical damage caused by the sun all while working to keep skin more taut. We can all appreciate that. Pineapple juice can be worked into masks or scrubs. It’s one of the best home remedies for wrinkles, moles and warts. It is rich in Alpha-Hydroxy Acids which slows down the aging process. Because it is rich in Vitamin C you can also rub slices of pineapple on rough areas of the skin or on dark spots and blemishes to reduce them.  However, make sure to wash this off after it sets for  5 minutes. If you keep pineapple applied more than 5 minutes, the acids in the fruit would burn your skin.

9. Pumpkin: Soothes, lighten, and moisturize the skin. It has skin-healthy nutrients and vitamins. It also works as a gentle natural exfoliator thanks to its alpha-hydroxy content. Be sure to wash off the skin after 5 mins.

Have fun with experimenting with fresh organic oils and fruits. If you react to a food when you eat it, you may well react when it contacts your skin.  Be sure to do a skin test in the inside of your wrist or inside of your elbow and ensure it’s clean and free of lotion and oils.

Let’s jump into some makeup:

If you’re looking to switch to greener, healthier beauty products that don’t compromise on quality then look no further! Here are some top Green Beauty Glam’s, Holy Grails. (in no particular order).
